The City of Vaughan has given the green light for redevelopment of the Toromont Industries’ site located at the southwest corner of Jane Street and Highway 7. This project is set to transform the skyline of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre just north of Toronto.

With approval of the Toromont master plan, construction can now begin on 17 towers, including a striking 73-storey skyscraper at the entrance to the development, along with over 9,950 residential units distributed across four development blocks covering 10 hectares.

Designed by WZMH Architects and spearheaded by Toromont, this initiative will feature around 784,561 square metres of residential space as well as office areas, hotel accommodations, retail shops, and 1.60 hectares dedicated to new parkland, according to a press release from the Toronto-based architecture firm.

The project will unfold in four phases. The first phase will introduce more than 3,294 residential units along with office spaces and initial sections of a new park network in Vaughan’s city centre.

Alongside connections to York transit and TTC services, plans also include more than 8,000 bicycle parking spots. The development proposal submitted in 2024 indicates that residential units will come with a variety of amenities as well as 4,549 parking spaces and 61 accessible spots.

“We are delighted to have designed and help guide this project through to its final approval,” said WZMH principal Len Abelman. “We are excited to see the project move toward realization and contribute to Vaughan’s continued growth as a vibrant urban centre.”
