Ontario Provincial Police report that five children have lost their lives and several others were critically injured after a two-vehicle crash in Wellington County on Friday evening.
The accident occurred around 7:30 p. m. at the intersection of Wellington Road 12 and Fourth Line in Mapleton Township, just northwest of Guelph.
Authorities say a passenger van carrying ten people collided with a sport utility vehicle that had one occupant at the intersection.
“Tragically, five children lost their lives. I can confirm that the victims are all related,” said Superintendant Dwight Thib during a news conference on Saturday afternoon.
Four girls and one boy, aged between four and twelve, were killed, according to Thib.
“This is an unimaginable loss. On behalf of the Ontario Provincial Police, I extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and the community during this incredibly difficult time,” he added.

Four adults and one infant suffered serious injuries and are currently hospitalized.
The intersection was closed for hours while investigators assessed the scene but has since been reopened.

The OPP traffic incident management team is now helping with the investigation.
