The world felt a little emptier on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with the loss of Barry William Young. He passed away peacefully at his home in Kingston, Ontario, where he shared life with his loving wife Diane.

Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Barry spent much of his childhood growing up on Aubrey Street in Bracebridge after his family moved there when he was young. This post-war neighborhood, often affectionately referred to as “Diaper Row”, shaped the character of its residents – instilling values like financial responsibility, mutual respect for neighbors, the importance of friendship, and a good sense of humor that Barry carried throughout his life.

Many will remember Barry for all he did professionally and in public service. His dedication to improving the lives of both loved ones and the community around him was felt by everyone who knew him. He worked hard to ensure that every person had a voice and encouraged them to speak up; if needed, he’d lend his own voice to amplify theirs.

Barry had a quick wit and an excellent sense of humor that shone through in how he dressed. His fondness for bright colors reflected his personality. He enjoyed being part of any gathering, whether invited or not because he believed that “those people over there” would likely be interesting and worth meeting. You might not always have seen eye-to-eye with Barry, but if it were up to him, differences would always end with a smile and a handshake.

Above all else, Barry adored his family. He leaves behind his wife Diane (Nagorsen), son Adam (Carolyn Saunders), son Lucas (Paige Symonds), granddaughter Violet, siblings Sandra Winspear (Chris), Heather Moore (Gerry), Jeff (Darlene), brothers-in-law Ron Kujansuu and David Nagorsen (Nancy), sister-in-law Wendy Boose, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, plus his beloved aunt Velma Ball.

Barry is preceded in death by his parents Ida and Ralph Young as well as his older sister Karen (Kujansuu) and family patriarch James Ball.

If anyone wishes to honor Barry’s memory through donations, he would have appreciated support for local food banks or Turtles Kingston.

A Celebration of Life will take place for Barry on Saturday, July 18 at the Bracebridge Legion Branch 161 located at 168 Muskoka Road in Bracebridge, Ontario from 1 to 4 p. m., with remarks starting at 1:30 p. m.
