Discount retailer TK Home has shut down most of its shops in Ontario, including those in Aurora and Richmond Hill, but Min Aung is rebranding and continuing to serve customers in Bradford.
As the local franchisee since the store opened in October 2024 at 44 Bridge St., Aung mentioned that his partnership with TK Home’s founder and CEO Andrey Andreev came to an end last October due to financial disagreements, although he didn’t want to share specific details.
“The situation got messy,” he said. “Me and Andrey didn’t end on good terms.”
For instance, he pointed out that Andreev still manages the store’s Facebook and Google listings, which state that the store is closed despite it remaining open.
Now operating independently, Aung is working on expanding the product range and is negotiating agreements to add items from even more major retailers. He also has plans for a new interior design and aims to rebrand as Canada Home. The TK has already been taken off the store’s signs, and Aung hopes to install new ones as soon as possible.
“I’m never going to close,” he stated, noting that unlike some other TK Home locations, he’s had no trouble paying rent or receiving shipments; by January 5, his stock room was full after a “huge” delivery.
The store continues to sell discounted products such as overstock items, open box goods, floor models or demo units. This includes housewares, furniture, clothing, footwear, appliances, linens, toys, home and garden supplies, exercise equipment and even some toiletries and non-perishable food items. They also offer U-Haul rentals.
“We’re here to serve the community,” Aung said. “I’m keeping costs as low as possible.”
This approach contributed to a “very good” holiday season that included a Boxing Week sale where everything was an extra 30 percent off.
Even though his main business focuses on real estate, Aung appreciates the warm welcome he’s received from the local community. He aims to revive some of the previous charm of this location that was once The Guild of Automotive Restorers before becoming Bak’s Market.
“We haven’t even scratched the surface of the store’s potential yet,” he remarked. “I love the community. Everyone’s nice.”
Apart from serving customers daily, he plans to utilize January and February’s slower season for preparation ahead of a relaunch under its new name later this year.

The social media updates also mentioned two former locations are no longer affiliated with TK Home; Whitby now operates as Overstock’d while Oshawa runs as Bargain Dealz. Notices posted by landlords claimed Andreev’s company owed approximately $23,642, about $112,482, for Weston location rent dues , and roughly $125,000, for Aurora location dues.
