Chief for a Day Essay Contest Winner – Ella Beckett
Every year, York Regional Police runs an essay contest, inviting Grade 5 students in York Region to submit their essays. A winner is chosen and gets the chance to be the York Regional Police Chief for a Day and share their experience at Police Appreciation Night. This year’s winner is 10-year-old Ella Beckett. Ella attends Oscar Peterson Public School and proudly won the York Regional Police Chief for a Day essay contest. An adventurous spirit with a love for sports, Ella enjoys playing hockey and has a passion for horses. Whether she’s skating or riding, she always gives her best effort. Ella dreams of turning her love for animals into a career as a veterinarian who specializes in horses. A creative soul, Ella loves writing and illustrating her own stories. She is also a natural leader who enjoys being a big sister to Lyla. Her willingness to try new things keeps her ready to tackle any challenge. Ella can’t wait to bring her enthusiasm and energy to the York Region community.Our History
The first Police Appreciation Night started as a small gathering, suggested by five local businesspeople to the then-Chief of York Regional Police. <p)With under 400 attendees, the program was short but that night laid the groundwork for what would grow into an important event for our police service and the wider community. Over time, Police Appreciation Night has played an essential role in strengthening connections between York Regional Police and communities across the region. It showcases the great work done by YRP members. We owe gratitude to those five founders of the Police Appreciation Night committee. This year we celebrate their contributions along with all who have been part of this event since then. Thanks to them, we’ve shared incredible stories and achievements each year while building lasting relationships that make York Region better.
