A 29-year-old man from Oshawa has been taken into custody in relation to a hit and run in Markham that seriously injured a 19-year-old woman last month, according to York Regional Police on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Denison Street and Featherstone Avenue on February 19. Previously, police stated she was located 50 meters east of the intersection after being struck and carried on the vehicle’s hood.
The suspect was arrested last Friday. Authorities also seized the car involved as well as “a quantity of controlled substances” after executing three search warrants at locations linked to him in the Greater Toronto Area.
He is facing charges related to dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident that resulted in bodily harm, along with several drug trafficking offenses, as noted in a news release from York Region police.
The suspect allegedly took “steps to conceal his identity and to repair damage to the vehicle,” according to the news release.
Police are reminding the public that anyone who assisted the suspect in “concealing, repairing or altering the vehicle to avoid detection” could be charged as an accessory after the fact.
<p Anyone who saw the collision or might have dashcam footage is encouraged to contact police.
