James Patrick “Jim” Power, who was 90 years old, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, businessman, adventurer, and friend, Jim lived a life full of determination, humility, resilience, and a profound love for his family.
Jim was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada to Mary Elise Saulnier and James Edward Power. He completed his education at Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School before earning a Civil Engineering degree from St. Francis Xavier University (3 yrs) and the University of New Brunswick (2 yrs). Jim also served in the Royal Canadian Army of Engineers and later obtained an Executive Masters in Business Certificate from the University of Western Ontario.
Jim started his career with Johns Manville Canada where he worked his way up through the ranks while moving his family across Canada. He eventually became President and Chief Operating Officer of Johns-Manville Canada. In 1981, he relocated with his family to Denver, Colorado to join Manville’s Global Senior Executive Leadership team. After finishing his corporate career, Jim founded and led several successful businesses that focused on manufacturing pipeline coatings while building strong relationships with customers worldwide. His entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic earned him respect among colleagues and friends across various industries.
While Jim found great professional success throughout his life, those closest to him knew that nothing brought him more joy than sharing experiences with family and lifelong friends. He loved skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Resorts as well as cycling through Colorado’s stunning mountain passes during Ride the Rockies with Jackie and close friends. He enjoyed attending performances at Central City Opera House as well as Ford Amphitheater and Vilar Performing Arts Center. Traveling the world with loved ones was also something he cherished deeply. Additionally, he proudly served on the Beaver Creek Metro District Board along with the Eagle County Water Board and Beaver Creek Property Owner’s Board. Jim had a genuine affection for the mountain communities that became such an important part of his life; he took pride in having his old Vail ski pass laminated right into the bar at Gas House restaurant!
Jim had an extraordinary blend of strength combined with humility. He faced life head-on with a “can do” attitude backed by quiet confidence and steadfast perseverance while being known for kindness toward others. Rather than leading through loudness or ego-driven behavior; he led by example through integrity along with consistency demonstrating wisdom mixed in humor providing comfort to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by many loving family members including his wife Jacquelyn “Jackie” Power; son Patrick James Power; daughter Stephanie Power Evans along with son-in-law Paul T. Evans; stepchildren Carrie Staahl Brett Staahl Tyler Northrop Erika Northrop; beloved grandchildren Cole T. Evans James Parker Evans Davis Evans Chloe Power Lily Power Abbey Power Jack Staahl Jules Staahl Watson Northrop plus extended family residing in Canada too! His two sisters Eleanor Stoddard Irene Allen preceded him in death.
A celebration honoring Jim’s life will be announced later on.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made either towards Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Parkinson’s Foundation or Humane Colorado.
Jim leaves behind a legacy filled not just love but also humility determination generosity which continues inspiring both family members alongside all who crossed paths throughout their lives.
