Political commentator Cenk Uygur and online host Hasan Piker announced on Sunday that they have been prevented from entering the UK, with British officials citing their public statements about Israel as the reason.
Uygur, who co-founded The Young Turks, a political news and commentary platform in the US, stated he found out about the travel ban while trying to board a flight to London for the SXSW London festival where he was supposed to speak at Oxford.
In a series of posts on X, Uygur mentioned that British authorities labeled him as “a serious risk to the public order.”
“The British government is saying they’re banning me because I am ‘a serious risk to the public order’ due to my criticism of Israel,” he wrote.
He added that authorities viewed his comments about Israeli influence in US politics as antisemitic, even though he maintained that his statements were based on facts.
Uygur contended that his exclusion was not due to remarks regarding the UK itself but rather concerning his comments made in the United States about Israel.
