Two men face charges for stunt driving after their motorcycles were spotted speeding and weaving through traffic in Whitby on Tuesday, leading to a crash involving one of them.
The incident occurred near Dundas Street W. and Lakeridge Road S. Police arrived at the scene around 3:05 p. m.
The rider who crashed sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release from Durham Regional Police on Wednesday.
Authorities said he lost control of his motorcycle and went off the road. He was taken to a trauma center in the Toronto area.
“Further investigation determined that the motorcycle was being operated with no insurance, and a fake licence plate,” police stated in the release.
The other rider did not sustain any injuries, police reported.
In addition to stunt driving, the first man, aged 20, has been charged with careless driving, operating a vehicle without plates, and driving without insurance. The second man, who is 21, faces charges for careless driving as well. Both individuals are from Richmond Hill, according to police.
Both men received provincial offence summons for their actions. Authorities noted their licenses have been suspended for 30 days and their motorcycles impounded for two weeks.
If anyone has information about the crash, they are encouraged to contact Durham police.
