What you need to know if you’re stranded in Mexico | Hanomansing Tonight

Canadian tourists are stuck in Mexico after their flights to Puerto Vallarta were cancelled due to significant violence following the killing of a drug lord. Mc Kenzie Mc Millan, managing partner at The Travel Group, offers advice for those who are either stranded or still planning to travel to Mexico.

Mc Kenzie Mc Millan, managing partner at The Travel Group, has some suggestions for Canadians who are feeling uncertain about their upcoming trips to Mexico.

He told CBC’s Ian Hanomansing that he’s still considering the risks of his own planned visit to Puerto Vallarta next week.

If you choose to proceed with your trip, make sure you’re registered with Global Affairs Canada, he advises, so you can receive important updates if something occurs. He emphasizes the importance of monitoring your airline status and ensuring you have medical insurance.

Lastly, he suggests getting connection insurance for your flights.

“If you are stranded somewhere, flights are cancelled, and you’re looking at three, four or five days in a destination, often that insurance will help you with costs while in destination – like accommodation, food, taxi rides, phone calls, that sort of thing,” he said.
