November 07 1943 – May 06 2026

We are heartbroken to share that our dear family leader, Nicola Qawwas, fondly known as Nick, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 82.

Nick was born in Jifna, Palestine, on November 7, 1943. He brought the rich culture of his homeland with him when he moved to Canada at the age of 23. Over the next sixty years, he blended those roots into a new life here, taking pride in both his journey and his accomplishments. A true patriot, he adored his adopted country and nothing showcased his Canadian spirit more than hearing him sing the national anthem-a heartfelt tribute to the life he built.

He was a devoted husband to Rima for an incredible 55 years. He was also a proud father to Zahia, Badi, Natalie (Jeff), and George (Danielle). Nick cherished being a grandfather to Michael, Owen, Olivia, Ayla, Sophie and Anthony. He was a caring brother to Marie Zawany (late Gubrael) and was predeceased by his siblings Suhail and sisters Jameelah and Suhaila. Nick took great joy in being an uncle to Angelique, George (Karen), Alexander (Andrea) and their families.

As one of the founding members of St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church, Nick truly was a cornerstone of the community. For over thirty-five years, he shared his talent as a chanter with his powerful voice that filled the church with warmth for all who attended.

His life revolved around two great loves: his faith and family. He had an immense capacity for love which he showed daily through countless acts of care and kindness toward everyone around him.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and PSWs who provided care for Nick in both hospital settings and at home. Your compassion and dedication meant so much to our family during this time.

Visitation will take place at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Banwell location) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 2-5 pm and again from 7-9 pm. Prayers will be held Monday evening at 8:00 pm. Visitation continues on Tuesday May 12th at St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church (1808 Labelle St.) starting at 10:00 am followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Windsor Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or gifts please consider donating to St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church in Nick’s memory-this would mean a lot to our family. Online condolences and shared memories can be submitted at www. windsorchapel. com
