GM Canada has announced a $63-million investment in their Oshawa assembly line.

This funding will improve stamping operations, boost capabilities in the service parts sector, and assist with preparations to manufacture gas-powered full-size pickup trucks.

“This additional investment underscores Oshawa’s importance in GM’s full-size truck portfolio,” said Jack Uppal, President and Managing Director of GM Canada. “With a long history of building trucks in Canada, the talented team at Oshawa Assembly will continue to play a critical role for years to come in delivering the pickups our customers know and trust.”

This new investment adds to the $280-million announced in June 2023, totaling GM’s investment in Oshawa to $1.5 billion since 2020.

The announcement follows the recent layoff of about 500 employees at the Oshawa plant as GM returns to two shifts of production.

Oshawa Assembly currently manufactures Chevrolet Silverado light and heavy-duty full-size pickups on two shifts. It is also the only North American facility producing both models on the same assembly line.

The site additionally supports aftermarket parts related to stamping, sub-assembly, and other activities.
