Stellantis has announced that it will bring back a third production shift at its Windsor Assembly Plant, a move that will create over 1,700 jobs and return the facility to round-the-clock operations.
Beginning on February 17, 2026, the plant will have approximately 6,000 employees, reaching its highest workforce levels since the third shift was cut in mid-2020.

This expansion is part of a larger $7.9 billion investment initiative in Canada that Stellantis has been pursuing since 2022. This funding aims to upgrade manufacturing capabilities and facilitate the shift toward electric vehicle (EV) production.
The added shift is intended to meet increasing demand for Stellantis’ key products made in Windsor. The plant is the sole global production site for the 2026 Dodge Charger lineup, which recently won the North American Car of the Year award. Production will include models like the Dodge Charger SIXPACK and Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack. The facility also continues to manufacture Chrysler Pacifica, Grand Caravan, and Voyager minivans.
The new shift includes 1,700 newly trained staff members, most of whom are represented by Unifor Local 444. Among these new hires, 250 are transfers from the Brampton Assembly Plant, which is currently on operational pause.
Operations will now run across three shifts-midnight, day, and afternoon-in all major areas: Body-in-White (BIW) and Paint, General Assembly, and Material Handling. According to Stellantis, the plant is now set up to produce a new vehicle about every minute.
Stellantis remains Canada’s largest automotive employer with a total workforce of around 10,000 people nationwide. In addition to assembly line roles, the company has created 650 engineering positions at its Automotive Research and Development Centre (ARDC) located in Windsor.
“Launching the new third shift is a significant milestone,” said Trevor Longley, President and CEO of Stellantis Canada. “This investment reinforces our commitment to Canadian manufacturing and expands our capacity during a period of real momentum.”
