WASAGA BEACH – The Town of Wasaga Beach has announced the name of the new beachfront hotel, which will be a Marriott, and it’s set to cost over $45 million. This hotel will be located next to the town’s well-known Beach Drive at Beach Area 1.

Ray Gupta, CEO of Sunray Group, was joined by Mayor Brian Smith and other Council members to share this news earlier today. This announcement follows Premier Doug Ford’s visit to Wasaga Beach last Friday, where he revealed that Ontario is investing $38 million to boost tourism in the area.

Sunray Group is now set to start developing an approximately 120-room Marriott hotel as part of the first phase of a four-phase project near the town’s famous beachfront.

In this initial phase, Sunray Group plans to invest more than $45 million for the construction of the Marriott hotel. They will cover all development charges for all four phases. Additionally, they are allocating $1.5 million to create a “Festival Square” next to the hotel by the beachfront, which will serve as a venue for outdoor entertainment and special events organized by the municipality.

The Town and Sunray have also established a joint venture and profit-sharing agreement for three more phases of development that are likely to include added amenities and residences near Beach Area 1. Sunray is currently looking into options to connect these residences with Marriott Residences, potentially allowing homeowners to rent out their units through a rental pool system similar to what is found at Village at Blue Mountain.

Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026. The first phase of the Marriott hotel will feature several year-round elements:

a high-quality restaurant convention facilities fitness center or spa commercial shops wedding venues

The establishment of a Marriott hotel close to the beach will help revitalize the main commercial area along Beach Drive, which serves as an economic hub for one of Ontario’s fastest growing municipalities. It aims to enhance seasonal tourism by encouraging valuable multi-day stays in Wasaga Beach. Moreover, it supports broader economic development objectives like:

strengthening Wasaga Beach’s tourism brand; drawing other top-tier brand partnerships and experiences; and transforming Wasaga Beach into a year-round destination in Ontario.

Sunray Group is now preparing to refine site plans and designs based on community input.

Quotes

Ray Gupta, President and CEO, Sunray Group of Hotels:

“Sunray Group of Hotels is proud to be investing in the community of Wasaga Beach – the longest freshwater beach in the world. I have a strong connection to this beautiful community and to Beach Area 1. This is where I spent a lot of time as a youth – I have amazing memories of family vacations spent enjoying the beach and sun along with all sorts of fun activities.

Our family operated a seasonal business called Beach Bazaar on the main boardwalk in Wasaga Beach back in 1976. During summer months we sold clothing, jewelry, and various beach essentials. One of my brothers managed our store full-time while I helped out during weekends.

Interestingly enough, our former location was close by where we are now developing our hotel project. While we were busy running our shop during daytime hours, evenings provided time for relaxation with friends while soaking up this beautiful area’s charm. Those early days instilled me with great appreciation for this lively beach community which continues motivating my commitment towards Wasaga Beach today.

I’m truly excited about returning here at this moment when I’m able help fulfill Council’s vision alongside them! We look forward delivering an outstanding Marriott experience featuring restaurants shops plus an inviting public event space beside it – serving both residents who live here full-time plus delighting over two million visitors yearly whilst solidifying its status as remarkable Canadian destination.”

Quick facts Wasaga Beach holds title as longest freshwater beach globally. Annually more than two million visitors come enjoy its scenic attractions including live music festivals dining options food trucks shopping available along iconic stretches such as those found within vicinity known simply referred too often colloquially so-called “Beach Drive” at popular spot named simply “Area One”. With over $45 million investment planned creating jobs surpassing hundred mark expected from building aforementioned property alongside others associated developments down road. For decades efforts focused upon attracting premium-branded accommodations directly adjacent waterfront areas. Additional resources
