Two men have been charged with stunt driving after they were spotted weaving through traffic at high speeds on motorcycles in Whitby on Tuesday, which led to one of them crashing.
The accident took place near Dundas Street W. and Lakeridge Road S. Police received a call about the incident around 3:05 p. m.
The rider who crashed sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to Durham Regional Police in a news release on Wednesday.
Police mentioned that he lost control of his motorcycle and went off the road. He was transported to a trauma center in the Toronto area.
“Further investigation determined that the motorcycle was being operated with no insurance, and a fake licence plate,” police said in the release.
The other individual involved did not sustain any injuries, police added.
Alongside stunt driving charges, the first man, aged 20, has also been charged with careless driving, operating a vehicle without plates, and driving without insurance. The second man, aged 21, faces charges for careless driving as well. Both individuals are from Richmond Hill, according to police.
Both men were released on provincial offence summons. Police noted their licenses have been suspended for 30 days and their motorcycles will be impounded for 14 days.
If anyone has information regarding the crash, they are encouraged to contact Durham police.
