The City of Windsor is set to launch about $12 million in road upgrades, including rehabilitation, reconstruction, and resurfacing across Wards 2, 3, and 4 in 2026 as part of a larger capital investment initiative.

This funding is part of the city’s budget for 2026, which allocates over $317 million for capital projects and earmarks $163.8 million specifically for road work.

City officials mention that the planned work will involve milling and paving, complete reconstructions, and improvements to underground infrastructure. These projects aim to prolong the life of roads by 10 to more than 20 years.

The approved budget for 2026 has a municipal tax levy increase of zero percent and includes a comprehensive $2.26 billion plan spanning ten years.

Ward 4 – $2.8 million

The Mayor Dilkens states that this expenditure represents a “long game” strategy for updating infrastructure while emphasizing that this program stands as the city’s largest road rehabilitation effort ever.

“Investing Responsibly is about empowering progress… ensuring that Windsor remains one of the most affordable communities in Ontario,” Dilkens said.

Since2016, Windsor’s annual capital investment has risen by162 percent with extra funds also directed toward sewers transit parks, and key development zones including areas relatedto the Next Star Energy battery projectandthe future Fancsy Family Hospital site.

The expected construction timelines for most projects are projected through spring summer, and fall of2030.
