Photo Credit – United Way Oxford – Tillsonburg Walk The Coldest Night of the Year walk was a big hit in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg, generating funds for United Way Oxford. INGERSOLL/TILLSONBURG – Another successful Coldest Night of the Year walk took place in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg. Both events collected donations for United Way Oxford, bringing in over $104,000 in total for 2026. More than 275 people from the two communities participated to support the Tillsonburg and Ingersoll Light Houses by fundraising. Executive Director Kelly Gilson explains why transitional housing is vital for these communities. “Transitional housing provides safe, supportive, and affordable housing that supports each resident’s unique needs and allows them time, space, and the assistance required to create a better future life. The amazing staff from our community partner, the Oxford County Community Health Centre, are there to lend a helping hand to every resident. CNOY funding helps United Way ensure that both Ingersoll and Tillsonburg have this vital housing program.” The Tillsonburg Light House opened its doors in 2023 and has assisted 31 individuals so far. Meanwhile, within less than a year, the Ingersoll Light House has provided support to 14 people. Community Impact and Engagement Manager Lindsay Wilson shares her perspective on why transitional housing matters. “Transitional housing has become an essential addition to our small community, filling a critical gap in support for residents when local services are limited. When we invest our resources in a housing-first approach, we’re investing in proven solutions that help residents regain stability and stay connected to their community.” United Way Oxford extends a huge thank you to all walkers, donors, volunteers, and community partners who contributed to making this event such a success. Special thanks also go out to the sponsors who made it all possible; lead sponsors ERTH Power and GM played key roles alongside The Mill Inn & Eatery for providing dinner after the walk so participants could enjoy some food while discussing the cause. Planning is already underway for next year’s walk scheduled for February 27th. Source link
