A woman from London has been charged with several offenses following a multi-vehicle accident in the south end of the city early Sunday morning, including claims that she assaulted first responders and a nurse.

Authorities say they received numerous 911 calls about a serious crash on Wellington Road, between Commissioners Road East and Southdale Road East, just after 12:20 a. m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a speeding black Chevrolet Tahoe had collided with two vehicles, a telephone pole, and a business sign at the intersection of Wellington and Southdale before coming to rest.

A female passenger in the Tahoe was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver, who is 23 years old, sustained minor injuries. Both were extracted from the vehicle with help from the London Fire Department.

“While being transported to hospital the female driver assaulted paramedics, police and damaged a police radio,” police said in a news release. “Once at the hospital, she additionally assaulted a nurse.”

Dangerous operation/bodily harm; Dangerous operation; Impaired; Impaired bodily harm; Mischief under $5000; Fail to stop at the scene of an accident; Fail to comply with a release order; Assault a peace officer; Three counts of assault.

The accused remains in custody and is set to appear in court in London on Tuesday. The investigation is still ongoing.
