With heavy hearts, the family shares the peaceful passing of our dear Satindar on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, following a brave fight against Parkinson’s Disease.
Satindar is profoundly missed by his wife Charlene (Mellesmoen), daughters Anu (Jeff) and Rose; step-children Jeffrey (Chris), Janelle (Ryan), Kimberley (Glen), Steven (Danica), Samara (Cole) and Rachel (Andrew); grandchildren Airo, Warner, Camilla, Weston, Alex, Celina, Liv and Bryant; in-laws Lou and Mildred Paquin along with their families.
Satindar was born on October 12, 1945 in Jhang, West Pakistan to Manohar and Prakash Nijhawan. He spent his childhood in Delhi. In India, his brother Narender (Kiran) Nijhawan and sister Swadesh (Brij) Bhalla are mourning his loss along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
After obtaining his electrical engineering degree in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and working there for two years, Satindar made his way to the US to pursue a Master’s degree in Madison, Wisconsin in 1969. He worked in Norman, Oklahoma before moving to Canada. He practiced engineering across various Canadian cities until he settled in Moose Jaw, SK during the early 80s where he began an impressive career as a SIAST instructor in Electronics Engineering Technology. Together with his first wife Kamal, he raised their two daughters in Moose Jaw where they formed many friendships within both SIAST and the East Indian community. Satindar was a dedicated teacher who earned respect from students and colleagues alike. He always took on new challenges willingly and was ready to assist and inspire his students. He relished being a Skills Canada judge at numerous annual competitions nationwide. He taught his last class on the Moose Jaw campus in December 2019.
When it came to interests or hobbies, Satindar’s answer was always travel. Not only did he explore extensively around the globe but also loved weekend getaways anywhere within Canada. After finishing a semester at SIAST he often hopped on a bus heading towards the mountains. He enjoyed buying a pass that allowed him to travel throughout North America while paying extra whenever possible just to grab the front seat so he could soak up scenic views along with chatting with the driver.
Satindar had an inviting smile that reflected his warm heart and friendly nature coupled with an adventurous spirit. Proudly embracing Canadian citizenship made him even more enthusiastic about meeting new faces and socializing; recently enjoying tile rummy games every Tuesday night with friends from his condo community. In recent years however Satindar faced distress due to losing independence which limited some activities; yet he fought hard to keep active despite these challenges pushing forward inch by inch through sheer determination. We are thankful for all services available that supported him during this difficult time: doctors’ visits with specialists nurses aides occupational/physical therapists home care CPAS paramedics Long Term Care at Cozy Nest staff across three hospitals located within Saskatoon concluding at St Paul’s Palliative Care Unit. Additionally blessed was Satindar having Fr Gerard Dewan provide spiritual support during those final days.
He loved deeply without conditions taking immense pride celebrating achievements among family members dedicating life towards their well-being success integrating seamlessly into Charlene’s family after tying knots back in 2007 referring every Sunday supper shared together as “a party.” His gentle loving essence is truly missed.
A memorial service honoring Satindar will take place on Saturday December 20th ,2025 starting promptly at 2 pm inside Edwards Family Centre located at334 -4th Avenue North Saskatoon.
