A 24-year-old man from Toronto drowned after his kayak capsized on the waters near River Road East.

NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE

The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is looking into a drowning case that occurred in Wasaga Beach.

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, at about 1:05 p. m., emergency responders were called to a home on River Road East after reports came in about a missing kayaker.

A young man, 24, from Toronto was kayaking with two others when their kayak flipped over. While the others managed to come back up, he did not.

When they arrived, the Wasaga Beach Fire Department found and pulled out the missing person and began resuscitation attempts. He was taken to a hospital by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services but sadly was pronounced dead later.

The name of the deceased isn’t being released right now to respect the family’s wishes. The OPP appreciates those who helped during this incident.

The investigation is still ongoing. If you have any information that could help, please reach out to the Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
