A 17-year-old boy has been charged following a collision in Richmond Hill that resulted in one teen’s death and injuries to six others earlier this month, according to police.

York Regional Police reported they arrived at the scene of a single motor vehicle accident near Bayview Avenue and Bethesda Sideroad on the morning of August 17, based on a news release shared Wednesday. Officers discovered a black, two-door hatchback in a ditch, containing seven teenagers aged between 16 and 17.

All individuals inside were injured, with two being taken to a trauma center, police had stated earlier.

A 17-year-old boy later passed away in the hospital while a 16-year-old girl remains in critical condition, according to the release.

The suspect, who resides in Richmond Hill, faces charges for dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and four counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, as per police reports.

Investigators are reaching out to any witnesses who might have seen the vehicle during the collision or have video footage of the incident to come forward.
