Ontario is putting $14.98 million into building a new Catholic School in Mildmay.
On Saturday, Huron-Bruce Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Lisa Thompson shared the news about the funding. This grant is part of a larger $22 billion investment over 10 years from Ontario aimed at constructing, renewing, and enhancing schools across the province.
The new school, Sacred Heart Catholic School, will be under the Bruce-Grey Catholic School Board (BGCDSB). The facility will have 245 spaces for elementary students and 39 licensed childcare spots.
“The new build is based on input from the community and an obvious need due to population growth forecasts,” said Thompson.
The school will be located at 8 Vincent Street in Mildmay.
“As our region experiences incredible growth, this $14.98 million replacement school and child care centre will provide our families with the space and resources that will support them to flourish,” Chair of the BGCDSB Lori Di Castri said.
This year, the provincial government is investing $1.6 billion in 79 school projects throughout the province, which includes a new high school being built in Kincardine and a public elementary school in Port Elgin.
