Authorities report that tactical officers visited a home in Midland on Tuesday, taking three individuals into custody without any issues; a 20-year-old man from Barrie has been charged with attempted murder.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include the names of the accused individuals.

Barrie police arrested three people and filed several charges after a shooting took place in the downtown area during the early hours of Sunday, April 6.

On Tuesday, officers from the tactical support unit arrived at a residence on Fitton Street in Midland and detained three suspects without any trouble, as stated by police.

A search warrant executed at the location led to the recovery of a loaded.40-calibre handgun, which authorities believe is linked to the shooting incident on Dunlop Street East over the weekend.

Police confirmed they are not searching for any additional suspects.

Investigators also found a spent shell casing at the scene and discovered a projectile that had penetrated a glass window of an establishment located across from where the shooting occurred.

Barrie police utilized the Ontario Provincial Police underwater search and recovery unit to assist with searching Kempenfelt Bay and retrieving evidence.

Daesean Sherk-White, a 20-year-old man from Barrie, faces charges including:

Attempting to commit murder with a restricted or prohibited firearm Aggravated assault Firing a restricted or prohibited firearm with intent Having possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm Knowledge of unauthorized firearm possession Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm Possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes (firearm) Pointing a firearm Using firearms while committing an offence Carelessly storing a firearm.

Olivia Thompson, 23 years old and from Barrie, has been charged with:

Being an accessory after the fact to an indictable offence (attempted murder) Theft (cellphone).

Amanda May Haus, 32 years old from Midland, has been charged with:

Being an accessory after the fact to an indictable offence (attempted murder).

The investigation is still ongoing according to police.

Authorities think there may be more photos and videos related to Sunday morning’s event. Anyone who was present downtown during that time and captured images or footage is encouraged to reach out.

The police are also aware that there was a woman whose cellphone was stolen during this incident and would like her cooperation.

Barrie police expressed gratitude towards members of the public who provided tips and video evidence that greatly aided their investigation.

If anyone has further information, they should contact the major crime unit at 705-725-7025, ext. 2160, email [email protected] or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The shooting early Sunday morning in downtown Barrie left 30-year-old Jordan Sproats recovering in Toronto hospital due to serious injuries. According to Barrie reports, Sproats underwent multiple surgeries after being shot in such manner that it impacted several organs as it passed through his chest while grazing his spine and lungs.

A Go Fund Me campaign has been created to support his recovery efforts.

Police released images of one male suspect involved in this shooting as part of their effort to identify him.

A local resident who claimed he witnessed what happened expressed feeling traumatized by this occurrence when speaking with Barrie Today on Monday.

“I panicked, but I was more worried about everybody else,” said John, who asked not to have his last name disclosed.

The 50-year-old reported seeing around 100 people gathered outside one bar on Dunlop Street East following its closure.

“I was looking down the barrel of the gun pretty much, and then I started trying to get people out of the way in case he started shooting,” he recounted. “And then (the suspect’s) friends grabbed (him) and they ran east on Dunlop Street.”

John described observing some sort of brief fight involving “a few girls … then shortly after heard a loud pop that sounded like gunfire – it seemed muffled like fireworks.”

In earlier news releases issued by police on Sunday morning regarding this incident described it as isolated. They stated “police do not believe there is risk posed toward public safety at this time.”
