One person has lost their life due to a shooting in downtown Hamilton on Thursday night.

According to Hamilton police, they received a report just before 6:30 p. m. about a shooting at 191 Main St. W, close to Caroline Street South.

“Upon arrival, one male victim was located with injuries consistent with a gunshot and was transported to hospital in critical condition,” police told CP24.

They confirmed that the victim has since been pronounced dead. His identity hasn’t been revealed yet.

This marks Hamilton’s third homicide of the year.

Police also mentioned that they suspect there could be more injuries among those who left the scene.

“We are working on suspect(s) description at this time. No firearm has been recovered yet,” police said.

The details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting are still unclear.

They’re asking everyone to avoid the area while they conduct their investigation.

191 Main St. West is an apartment building managed by the City Housing Hamilton Corporation, which is an affordable housing provider owned by the municipality. The building houses a supportive program for seniors as well as a transitional housing program for youth.
