York Regional Police is seeking help from the public in identifying suspects involved in a suspected arson that hit a business in Vaughan, Ont., on Tuesday.

Surveillance footage from the area, which was obtained and shared by police, captures two suspects breaking into the business. They seem to pour something on the building, set it ablaze, and then run away on foot.

No one was inside the building when the fire occurred, and there were no injuries reported, Const. James Dickson told CBC Toronto on Wednesday.

Dickson mentioned that while the video quality isn’t great and makes it hard to identify them, investigators think there were two males involved, although there could be more people connected to this incident.

“Oftentimes, when we see two people committing offences, usually someone else [is] in a getaway car. So we are alive to the fact that there might be more suspects,” he said.

Dickson indicated that it seems like this incident was targeted but not motivated by hate.

“There’s no indication at this time to believe that that’s the case,” he said.

Dickson added there’s currently no threat to public safety.

The estimated damage is over half-a-million dollars at this point.

York Regional Police is urging anyone with information or video footage related to this event to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
