A man from Lakeshore received a $1,000 fine after admitting to capturing, bothering, and trying to harm Canada geese.
The Ontario Court of Justice reviewed the case on February 2, 2026.
During the hearing, it was revealed that conservation officers were called by the Ontario Provincial Police when they noticed the man at Belle River Marina mistreating the geese. Witnesses reported that he caught a gosling and tried to hurt adult geese by throwing big rocks and swatting at them.
Canada geese are protected migratory birds under federal law.
The court ordered him to pay $1,000 to Ducks Unlimited Canada to aid in bird management, habitat improvement, and protection efforts around Lakeshore.
