The University of Windsor has partnered with another Ontario institution to enhance French-language education.
A new project, funded by the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT), involves both U of W and the University of Ottawa.
This initiative is called Supporting the Transferability of French-Language Courses. Its goal is to simplify credit transfers from online French courses offered at both universities.
Dr. Emmanuelle Richez, a professor in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at U of W, mentioned that this project will help eliminate barriers for students looking to continue their studies across institutions while still having access to French-language education.
“This initiative responds to a demonstrated need for additional French-language programming and positions the University of Windsor to better serve a growing population of French speakers and a workforce that increasingly requires bilingual skills,” said Richez.
ONCAT is funding 27 projects across Ontario’s publicly funded colleges, universities, and Indigenous institutions. The funding announcement was made on Tuesday by Minister Nolan Quinn from Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (CURES).
The Universities of Windsor and Ottawa plan to create a shared model that might be adopted by postsecondary schools throughout the province.
“We are grateful for the Government of Ontario’s investment, which will help reduce barriers and create more accessible, learner-centred opportunities in postsecondary education for our students in both official languages,” said U of W Interim Provost and Academic Vice-President Dr. Cheryl Collier.
