A 10-year-old child has lost their life after a head-on crash east of Perth, Ont., involving an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser.

The accident took place on Highway 7 between Drummond School Road and Drummond Concession 7 on Dec. 13, just before 4:30 p. m.

According to police, an OPP officer was patrolling in a marked cruiser when it was hit by an approaching pick-up truck.

There were three people inside the pick-up. The child was airlifted to a regional trauma centre by Air Ornge but sadly passed away the following day. The other two occupants are still hospitalized with serious injuries.

The OPP officer involved is recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Lanark County OPP is continuing to investigate the incident.

Authorities are asking for public help; anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the crash is encouraged to reach out to them.
