A man from Mississauga has been charged in connection with a homicide case in the Greater Toronto Area.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced on Tuesday that officers were called to reports of a deceased individual near Chinguacousy Road and King Street in Caledon, just north of Brampton, at around 8:10 a. m. on April 1, 2024.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that the victim was 65-year-old David Robson, who lived in Melancthon, northwest of Orangeville.

Authorities indicated that the autopsy revealed Robson was indeed a homicide victim.

Robson was last seen on March 21, 2024, at about 5 p. m. in Melancthon. Four days later, he was reported missing along with his car, a black 2017 Kia Sportage.

On the same day he went missing, police reported that Robson’s home had been set ablaze.

Following their investigation, Jacek Trela, a 29-year-old resident of Mississauga, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, arson and indignity to a body.

He is currently in custody and will appear in Ontario Court at a later date.

Law enforcement has not disclosed whether there was any prior connection between the accused and the victim.

The Dufferin OPP Crime Unit is continuing its investigation alongside other law enforcement agencies.

“While an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide of David Robson, we believe other individuals may be involved. We continue to urge anyone with information to contact police. Our goal is to hold all those responsible for David’s death accountable and provide answers to his family,” said OPP Det. Insp. Mark Allison.

If you have any information regarding this case, please call police at 1-888-310-1122 or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

Editor’s note: an earlier version of this story named the accused as Jack Trela.
