Cortney Moreau ‘showcases the skills, compassion, and dedication demonstrated every day at Empower Simcoe in supporting people and families’ in the area

SIMCOE COUNTY – Empower Simcoe is excited to share that Community Support Worker Cortney Moreau has been awarded the Developmental Services Human Resources (DSHR) Forum Direct Support Professional Leadership Award at the Provincial Network on Developmental Services Conference, which took place on Oct. 28, 2025.

This esteemed provincial award honors Direct Support Professionals who show outstanding leadership, creativity, and commitment to improving quality support for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Ontario.

A devoted team member at Empower Simcoe for the last 16 years, Moreau was acknowledged for her exceptional efforts to assist Hailey, a person she supports through Empower Simcoe’s Community Support Services program in Orillia.

Noticing Hailey’s enthusiasm for knitting, Moreau took it upon herself to research, design, and create an adaptive loom device – using her own resources and time – to help Hailey reach her creative aspirations.

“There’s no doubt that Empower Simcoe has the very best employees, bar none,” says Dr. Claudine Cousins, CEO of Empower Simcoe. “It is truly a pleasure to see one of our Direct Support Professionals recognized for leadership within the developmental services sector.

“We are so proud of Cortney, who represents all our employees and showcases the skills, compassion, and dedication demonstrated every day at Empower Simcoe in supporting people and families here in Simcoe County.”

Empower Simcoe extends its congratulations to Moreau for this well-deserved recognition, celebrating her creativity, leadership, and the meaningful difference she makes in the lives of the people she supports.
