The Smile Cookie Campaign is back at Tim Hortons this week, with all proceeds from sales in the Durham Region going to support the Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health.

Tracy Clegg, the foundation’s CEO, mentioned that funds raised will benefit the adolescent and eating disorder unit.

“We have children as young as 12 seeking support for our adolescence program,” said Clegg. “These are children struggling with anything from eating disorders all the way to severe anxiety and depression.”

Ontario Shores offers various specialized assessment and treatment services for individuals living with mental health issues, located at 700 Gordon Street in Whitby.

Last year, this campaign brought in over $22-million across Canada.

“The annual Smile Cookie campaign is a powerful reminder of what community truly means. For the past 30 years, Tim Hortons restaurant owners, team members, and guests have come together to create real change for people right in their own neighbourhoods,” said Axel Schwan, President of Tim Hortons. “With nearly 700 local charities and community groups supported this year, the reach of this campaign has never been greater. We encourage everyone to visit their local Tims and join us in making a difference.”

Smile cookies are hand-decorated chocolate chunk cookies adorned with pink and blue icing smiles.

Most locations in Durham will be supporting Ontario Shores, while Port Perry stores will aid the Port Perry Hospital Foundation and a Newcastle restaurant will donate to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

In Beaverton, proceeds will go towards the Sick and Injured Animal Fund at Brock Animal Shelter.
