A new Board of Health for the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit has been established by the Province of Ontario.
In August 2025, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health took over the board because of “serious concerns” regarding its governance.
Six months later, the province ended the terms of the current board members and started appointing new ones.
Currently, Special Advisors to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health have appointed just two provincial members out of a total of six. However, this week it was announced that Grey and Bruce Counties have selected seven municipal members to serve on the Board of Health.
From Grey County, Shirley Keaveney, Dane Nielsen, Barbara Dobreen, and Scott Greig are being appointed. Bruce County is appointing Rod Anderson, Ken Craig, and Steve Hammell.
Both Keaveney and Craig join Chad Richards as members who were part of the previous board.
The municipal members will serve until their term ends in November. The newly formed Board of Health is scheduled to hold its first meeting sometime this spring.
