Peel Regional Police have confirmed that the tragic house fire in Brampton has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a toddler. Thankfully, all other residents have been accounted for.
Initially reported as two fatalities, the massive blaze occurred on Nov. 20 around 2:30 a. m. at a multi-generational home with a basement unit located on Banas Way, near Mc Laughlin and Remembrance roads.
At that time, three people were still unaccounted for.
On Monday, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena provided an update stating that among those unaccounted for, two had been found deceased.
The third individual, a man who was away working during the incident, was located in the hospital alongside his family.
This caused some delay in confirming his whereabouts as he attempted to return home, Bell explained.

Meanwhile, Bell mentioned that four others remain hospitalized, including a five-year-old boy. Some are in critical condition; however, all are currently stable.
He also noted that one of the injured is a pregnant woman who had to undergo emergency surgery and delivered her baby. Unfortunately, her baby did not survive.
Bell confirmed there’s no indication of “any type of criminality” related to the fire at this stage in the investigation, which is expected to take several months to complete.

Numerous 911 calls reported the intense fire with some people reportedly trying to escape by climbing onto the roof.
On Friday large excavators and construction machinery were visible on site as crews carefully began dismantling parts of the charred house. Investigators also discovered evidence suggesting human remains during their search for those still unaccounted for. Officials had previously indicated there were 11 people believed to be living in this unit.
