GO train service between Confederation GO in Hamilton, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls will restart on Thursday morning, over a week after a freight train derailment disrupted the route.

Lock 4 railway bridge now open
Commercial vessels can now pass through Lock 4’s railway bridge at the Welland Canal, according to Nicole Giroux, communications manager at the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation. Giroux mentioned that “following the completion of repairs by CN,” services at the West Flight Locks resumed around 11:30 a. m. Tuesday, enabling “normal navigation operations through both the East and West Flight Locks.” This section of the Welland Canal is vital for many domestic and ocean-going commercial vessels for transit. A CN freight train derailed near St. Catharines on March 30 in the morning. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) reported that around 7:30 a. m., while traveling west on the main line, 14 rail cars derailed, including four tank cars carrying “dangerous goods.” No injuries or leaks were reported regarding dangerous goods, as stated by TSB spokesperson Liam Mac Donald. Mac Donald noted last week that investigations into what caused the derailment were still ongoing. “At this stage, we are gathering information and assessing the circumstances to determine whether a full investigation will be launched,” Mac Donald wrote in an email to CBC, adding that “it is too early to determine what was the cause of the derailment.”Source link
