Kingston Sentinels Launch New Soccer Season in Ontario
It's a big weekend for soccer in Kingston as the Sentinels kick-start their inaugural regular season at home. Kaytlyn Poberznick caught up with the League3 men's and women's teams ahead of kickoff, and brings us more.
A fresh chapter in soccer begins at Caraco Field this weekend as the Kingston Sentinels embark on their journey in the Ontario Premier League 3.

The Sentinels will celebrate their first regular-season home games on Saturday with a doubleheader. The men’s team will take on International FC at 4 p. m., followed by the women’s game against Whitby FC at 7 p. m.

The introduction of this new league fills a much-needed gap in local competition, allowing university athletes to remain in Kingston and play through the summer, while also offering a stepping stone for graduates eager to further their careers.

“This is now something that is a pathway for players to look forward to,” women’s head coach Chad Beaulieu said.

Player Mallory Mc Queen mentions how the team provides athletes from Queen’s University, the Royal Military College, and St. Lawrence College an incentive to stay during the summer.

“They can stay locally and can experience the Kingston summer, cause there’s nothing better,” Mc Queen said.

For those from Kingston on the rosters, this weekend represents a long-anticipated chance to play high-quality soccer right at home.

“I’ve always wanted to represent my city and give back to my city however I can,” Jacob Ball said.

“I’m from Kingston, born and raised, so it’s fun to be back on the field, and having the name Kingston in our logo is something special,” Mc Queen added.

The Sentinels are also giving a significant boost to local sports by providing young athletes with role models they can admire.

“We’re not regressing anymore, and we’re actually developing new teams, new opportunities, and I think it’s really great to watch the comeback of women’s soccer,” player Stella Carter said.

The players hope that community support will rally around this new franchise right from the start.

“I’m just excited to play for the city of Kingston and have all the fans out, and for my parents to still have a place to watch me play,” Mattson Strickler said.

“I really hope the turnout is good and we get a lot of support,” Ian Ferguson added.
