Janie Cammalleri, a loving wife, mother, Nonna, and sister, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 73 in Windsor, Ontario.
Born in Montallegro, Sicily, Janie came to Canada with her family when she was just two years old and grew up in Windsor, which she proudly called home for her entire life. She was happily married for 50 years to Pietro “Peter” Cammalleri, with whom she created a close-knit and devoted family.
Janie was a caring mother to Joseph and Nicole (Bruder), as well as Frank and Melissa (Edwards), and the most proud Nonna to Benjamin, Domenic, and Noella. Her family brought her immense happiness, and she never hesitated to share stories about them with anyone who would listen.
Always alert and involved, Janie enjoyed staying updated on current events and celebrity news. You could often find her playing card games. Her grandchildren will especially miss her cooking; her lasagna was famous for being made with love and tradition that brought everyone together around the table.
She was predeceased by her father, Francesco Piazza (2009).
Janie is survived by her loving husband Peter; her treasured mother, Anna Piazza, age 99; along with siblings Josie and John Donato, Domenica and the late Bruno Cremasco (2016), Peter and Franca Piazza, Anthony and Denise Piazza, as well as Enzo Piazza.
She is also fondly remembered by Peter’s family: the late Leonardo (2022) and Giuseppina Cammalleri (2013), Angela and the late Paolo Bongiorno (2024), Frank and Filomena Cammalleri, along with Filomena and Jerry Baronian.
Janie will be greatly missed by her 21 nieces and nephews, including their children and grandchildren-she adored each one of them.
The love Janie had for her family along with her quick wit and generous spirit will always be cherished by those who were lucky enough to know her.
