It’s been an exciting year for a popular Thai restaurant that has quickly transformed from a local favorite into a spacious two-level dining destination, with plans to reach even more customers.
Recently, the team behind Pii Nong, the impressive 10,000-square-foot Midtown venue featuring a restaurant that seats 120-130 guests, a Thai market, and a spa on the second floor, took to social media to share their intentions of opening another spot in a town outside Toronto soon.
“Tell us in the comments which Ontario town or city you’d love to see us in next,” they playfully asked on Instagram.
The answer is Oakville.
Although an exact opening date hasn’t been shared yet, a Pii Nong representative informed INsauga. com that they plan to open this new location in spring. The restaurant will be situated in downtown Oakville at 266 Lakeshore Rd. E.
This announcement comes shortly after the upcoming opening of their flagship Yonge and Lawrence location scheduled for 2024. Before this expansion, Pii Nong operated out of a smaller space on Bayview Avenue in Leaside, which has now been converted into Chon Modern Thai Cuisine.
Since launching the Midtown spot, head chef and co-owner Pii “Nana” Nong has received accolades for her street food-inspired dishes.
Co-owner Tom Ha splits his time between Pii Nong and Saigon Star-a long-standing Richmond Hill restaurant that recently underwent significant renovations after serving customers for over forty years-previously told INsauga. com that they wanted to create “something so insane, so crazy, so big that people would be like, ‘Are you sure you can pull this off?’”
While it’s still uncertain if Pii Nong’s Oakville branch will include more than just dining options, the restaurant has already generated excitement with its extensive menu featuring traditional Thai favorites (like pad Thai and khao soi) alongside unique dishes such as Thai pong karee crab and soft shell crab curry. One standout item is the crying tiger steak made with beef tenderloin marinated in sweet oyster sauce served with sticky rice and cilantro.
The restaurant also offers adorable teddy bear drinks available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions featuring either mango juice or milk tea with cute frozen teddies inside.
