A man from Burlington has been taken into custody and charged after allegedly threatening employees of the City of Burlington, which resulted in a temporary closure of City Hall on Wednesday afternoon.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) reports that the situation started around 1:15 p. m. on Nov. 26, when a staff member received a call from an angry man who threatened to harm city workers.

Police arrived at Burlington City Hall and began an investigation. As a safety measure, City Hall was closed for the rest of the day, and staff were sent home while officers secured the premises.

No injuries were reported.

By 8:15 p. m. that Wednesday, authorities had arrested a 37-year-old resident of Burlington and charged him with one count of making threats to cause death.

The individual remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing and has not been publicly identified.

If anyone has further information, they are encouraged to reach out to HRPS investigators.
