Brampton will soon have only five Beer Stores left.

The company, which previously held a monopoly on beer sales in Ontario, has announced another wave of store closures across the province, including a longtime location in Brampton.

The store set to close is situated in Fletcher’s Meadow Plaza at Bovaird Drive West and Worthington Avenue near Chinguacousy Road.

The closing date is March 22.

A representative from the Beer Store mentioned that these closures are necessary as beer drinkers in Ontario shift towards new purchasing options for their favorite drinks.

In October 2024, the Ontario government began allowing grocery stores and later convenience stores to sell beer and alcohol, which has affected sales at traditional Beer Store locations.

“We are making the tough decision to close these retail stores. To serve customers, we continue to operate alternative locations in each of these markets,” said Ozzie Ahmed, the vice president of retail at The Beer Store. “As a business, we are focused on operating a retail network that meets evolving consumer needs, providing the largest selection of beer and a world-class deposit return system.”

This isn’t the first Beer Store location to shut down in Brampton.

Towards the end of September last year, the store at Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road permanently closed its doors.

Five Beer Stores will remain open in Brampton.

The other stores closing on that same date include those located in Etobicoke, Hamilton and London.

With these upcoming closures, nearly 90 Beer Stores will have closed across the province since early last year.
