A pastor is facing accusations of being heavily involved in a fraud scheme that targeted a local program aimed at helping individuals in York Region who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Police state that the Regional Municipality of York made reports about fraudulent activities concerning its homelessness prevention program one year ago.
An investigation uncovered that almost $100,000 had been improperly claimed in 2024.
Law enforcement claims that 15 people have been charged, with a Vaughan pastor identified as the main suspect.
Police allege the 38-year-old, who served as a pastor at Miracle Arena for All Nations until last year, utilized his role to recruit others into participating in the fraudulent actions.
Investigators note that those charged as part of this case face offences related to fraud.
