A man and two teenage boys are facing charges, while three others remain at large after a violent home invasion in Whitby early Tuesday morning.

Authorities noted that the man has a previous history with the courts.

Durham Regional Police reported that officers responded to an emergency call about a home invasion at a residence near Applewood Cr. and Applewood Ave., close to Thickson Rd. S. and Dundas St. E., around 2:50 a. m.

According to police, six masked intruders entered the home, “assaulted the homeowner with a firearm,” demanded car keys, took several belongings, and then stole the victim’s blue Ford Raptor pickup truck.

The suspects fled in both the stolen pickup truck and another stolen vehicle – a Jeep Grand Cherokee – which they had used to arrive at the location.

Police also mentioned that the intruders attempted to steal another vehicle from the garage but were unsuccessful.

A short time later, police found the suspect Jeep Grand Cherokee abandoned on Hwy. 407,” they said. “Officers, along with the K9 Unit, searched the area and apprehended three suspects without incident.”

The other three suspects are still being sought, but no details about them have been released yet.

The authorities believe that “the Jeep was determined to have been stolen from the Toronto area prior to this incident,” adding that “the Ford Raptor was recovered in Toronto.”
