CN Rail has announced it’s looking into a train derailment that took place in St. Catharines, Ont., with no injuries reported so far.

According to CN, 13 train cars came off the tracks and are “in various positions” at the site as of Monday morning.

Niagara regional police report that the incident occurred east of Glendale Avenue close to Keele Street.

CN stated that polyethylene, which is often used to make household plastics, leaked from one of the railcars; however, there have been no fire incidents and the public is not at risk.

The company mentioned that they are investigating what caused the derailment and that the rail crossings initially impacted have been reopened for vehicle traffic.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is also sending a team of investigators to assess the situation on-site.

This report by The Canadian Press was first March 30, 2026.
