Ontario announced today that it will invest almost $40 million to refresh Wasaga Beach.

Premier Doug Ford mentioned that $25 million is set aside for the restoration of the Nancy Island Historic Site.

This site includes an old museum showcasing the battle involving the HMS Nancy, which captured two U. S. schooners before being sunk during the War of 1812.

The province also plans to allocate $11 million towards improving roads in the beach area to support tourism and a proposed 3,000-home development, along with an additional $2 million aimed at revitalizing downtown Wasaga Beach.

Ford added that a portion of the beach owned by the province will be handed over to the town, provided it remains open to the public at all times.

Tourism Minister Stan Cho stated that a marketing campaign will soon kick off to attract visitors to popular spots around Ontario, including Wasaga, known for having the world’s longest freshwater beach.
