December 22, 1935 – January 10, 2026

    Simon Léonard Bouchard, aged 90, passed away on January 10th, 2026 at Roseview Manor in Thunder Bay, ON.

    He was born to Marie Alice (Desbiens) Bouchard and Joseph Bouchard in Lac St-Jean, QC. At the age of 21, Simon moved to Northern Ontario. Throughout his life, he worked in the woods as a lumberjack, skidder, ice road foreman, in a sawmill and planting trees. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, camping and walking. He was also skilled at foraging; he picked berries and hazelnuts and collected mushrooms. Along with his brother Rosaire, he made maple syrup for family and friends. Simon enjoyed woodworking too; he crafted puzzles, a cradle, recipe book holders, a captain’s bed and even a rocking chair. Singing and dancing brought him great joy.

    Simon is mourned by his wife Paulette of 63 years, daughter Martine, grandchildren Danielle (Daric Torgerson) and David (Deanna), along with great-grandsons Pierrot, Jasper and Vincent. He leaves behind brothers Bernard (Monique), Gérard (Claudette) and Jean-Pierre (France Lemay), sister Marie Godin as well as brother-in-law Bernardin Dallaire and sisters-in-law Laurette, Pierrette and Jeannine. Many nieces, nephews and friends will miss him dearly.

    He was predeceased by his parents Alice and Joseph along with siblings Rosaire, Marthe, Paul, Irène , Raymond , and brother-in-law Jean-Guy Godin.

    Following his wishes , Simon was cremated at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. His ashes will be interred at a later date.

    Simon Léonard Bouchard est décédé au Manoir Roseview de Thunder Bay , ON à l’âge de 90 ans. Fils de feu Marie Alice (Desbiens) Bouchard et feu Joseph Bouchard , il est né au Lac St-Jean , QC. À l’âge de 21 ans , Simon déménage dans le Nord de L’Ontario pour faire carrière dans les bois. Bûcheron , skidder , foreman des chemins de glace , il a aussi travaillé dans une scierie pour enfin finir par planter des arbres. Il aimait beaucoup le plein air , la chasse , la pêche , le camping et faisait beaucoup de marche. Il cueillait des petits fruits , noisettes , champignons et a même produit du sirop d’érable avec son frère Rosaire. Simon travaillait aussi très bien le bois ; ayant fabriqué des jeux , des meubles et même un chaise berçante. Il aimait beaucoup chanter et danser.

    Simon laisse dans le deuil son épouse de 63 ans Paulette ; sa fille Martine ; petits enfants Danielle (Daric Torgerson) et David (Deanna); ses arrière petits-enfants Pierrot , Jasper et Vincent ; ses frères et sœurs feu Rosaire (Laurette) ; feu Marthe ; feu Paul (Pierrette); feu Irène (Bernardin Dallaire); feu Raymond (Jeannine); Bernard (Monique); Marie (feu Jean-Guy Godin); Gérard (Claudette) et Jean-Pierre (France Lemay) ainsi que de nombreux neveux nièces et amis.

    À la demande du défunt; il n’y aura pas d’exposition ni de célébration. Les cendres seront enterrées à une date ultérieure.
