The homeowners of an Ontario residence, who were targeted by burglars twice within a month, are sharing their experience of how they used baseball bats and a fire extinguisher to fend off the second invasion, which police suspect was aimed at their vehicle.
<p. At approximately 4 a. m. on Thursday, the residents of a house in Oakville, Ont., were jolted awake by loud banging and the sound of glass breaking as several suspects allegedly forced entry through the back door of their home on Brookfield Crescent.
They quickly jumped out of bed and rushed into the room with baseball bats that they had kept handy after experiencing a similar incident three weeks prior. The homeowners reported spotting four or five individuals dressed entirely in black rummaging through their belongings.
“We went to scare them off – and that’s when a shot fired off,” one homeowner recounted. “It hit the wall thankfully; no one got shot. But during all that chaos, (another household member) ran out with a fire extinguisher, spraying it everywhere, and I think that scared them off as they started to flee.”

Global News has decided not to reveal the identities of the homeowners due to their concerns for safety after being targeted by alleged intruders twice.
Their account aligns with the report released by Halton Regional Police on Friday. A news release detailed an Oakville home invasion where gunfire was exchanged, windows were shattered, and the homeowners interrupted the break-in.
Authorities stated they are still working to identify all suspects involved but confirmed that a 20-year-old man from North York was arrested while hiding in the basement when officers arrived.

“One of them got confused and ran down into the basement instead of escaping through the front door,” explained one homeowner. “We seized that moment, chased him down, trapped him in there, pinned him down until police showed up.”
