Proposed law would cap resale prices at original cost across the province.

Ontario is rolling out new regulations that could help put a stop to overpriced ticket resales, which may be good news for fans in Kingston and beyond.

The government plans to modify the Ticket Sales Act to make it illegal to sell tickets for more than their original purchase price, including any fees and taxes. These changes aim to prevent professional resellers from inflating prices.

If this legislation passes, the rules would cover concerts, sporting events, and other live entertainment. The province also wants to enhance protections against counterfeit tickets and unreasonable service fees.

Officials state that the objective is to make live events more affordable and accessible while ensuring consumers aren’t exploited in the resale market.
