Environment Canada issued a “yellow” level storm warning on Wednesday for Kingston and nearby areas as a winter storm approached. On Thursday, it hit Eastern Ontario with heavy snow and strong winds.

The yellow alert is the lowest level in Environment Canada’s new three-colour system for warnings.
The alert predicted snowfall amounts between 15 and 25 centimetres for Kingston, along with reduced visibility during heavy snow and possible blowing snow locally.
The Ottawa region had its warning upgraded to orange as they expect between 25 and 35 cm before it ends.
A low-pressure system that has already caused significant snowfall across much of Southern Ontario is now affecting eastern Ontario as well according to Environment Canada.
The cold wind chills accompanying this snowfall will add further challenges according to national weather officials.
The City of Kingston announced that crews were deployed early Thursday morning for road clearing efforts.

This article outlines that after nearly a week of mild weather conditions, winter made a comeback late Wednesday night with around five centimetres of snow falling over greater Kingston. An additional estimated snowfall of about 15-25 cm is expected before it stops late Friday night along with more snow anticipated over the weekend.
Buses were canceled both Thursday and Friday although schools remained open for students attending classes as scheduled.
The city’s plan involved clearing major roads first followed by sidewalks so people could get around easily again quickly afterwards while more thorough cleaning would begin later Thursday evening when conditions allowed better efficiency.
The city also reminded residents about ongoing overnight parking bans effective between midnight until seven A. M., still enforced strictly during these inclement weather days.
