The Municipality of Leamington will take another look at its decision to back the bid for hosting the 2027 Ontario Gymnastics Championship.

<p. Councillors showed their support for the bid during a council meeting on March 10. If the bid goes through, the ice will have to be taken out of the Highbury Canco Arena in March 2027.

This might disrupt the junior hockey season for the Leamington Flyers.

During the meeting, councillors pointed out that the Flyers hadn’t signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding arena use for next year, even after trying to meet with them.

Now, both the Leamington Flyers and the Municipality of Leamington have confirmed they’ve met to talk about junior hockey’s future in town.

After those talks, an MOU has been completed, and the Flyers will keep playing in Leamington.

A Notice of Reconsideration about supporting the bid for hosting the 2027 Ontario Gymnastics Championship will be discussed at the next Council meeting on March 24, 2026.
