PETERBOROUGH COUNTY – A 62-year-old man from Peterborough is facing multiple charges after a crime spree over three days that involved stealing a tractor and a school bus, along with break-ins at three nearby businesses.
According to the Peterborough County OPP, David Plumley, 62, was taken into custody on Dec. 9, two weeks following these incidents.
The situation began on Friday morning, Nov. 21, when a 2013 John Deere tractor was reported stolen from an area on Highway 7, just east of Highway 28 in the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan.
The next day, officers discovered the abandoned tractor around the same time that a break-in was reported at a business on Front Street in Hastings at about 9:30 a. m. Security footage captured an individual breaking the door to enter and then leaving with items from the store, as stated by police.
On Sunday, Nov. 23, law enforcement responded to an alarm call at approximately 5 a. m. regarding a business on Buckhorn Road in Selwyn Township. Security footage revealed someone arriving in a school bus, breaking in through the door and taking cash. Four hours later, this stolen bus-taken earlier from another business on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan-was found in the City of Peterborough without its driver.
Later that day at about 1:30 p. m., another break-in occurred at an Aspholdel-Norwood Township business located on Sand Road. Surveillance video showed an individual entering and exiting with stolen goods.
