Authorities have confirmed that two individuals lost their lives in a four-vehicle crash early Friday on Highway 7 close to Maberly, Ontario, which is west of Perth.
“The deceased individuals have been identified as a 59-year-old female and a 46-year-old male from Ottawa,” the Ontario Provincial Police stated in a news release. The victims were traveling together in the same vehicle, according to police.
Two other injured persons were airlifted to a regional trauma center by Air Ornge. One more individual was taken to an Ottawa hospital and another to a local facility.
According to police, the incident involved two transport trucks, one pick-up truck, and one sport utility vehicle (SUV). All those involved were adults.
“As part of the ongoing investigation it appears the two transport trucks and the SUV were travelling eastbound while the pick-up truck was heading westbound,” police mentioned in their statement.
“The investigation is in the early stages and a more detailed release will follow when details are known,” provincial police said in the release.
OPP reported that Highway 7 reopened shortly after 2 p. m.
The OPP is asking anyone who witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage of it to reach out to investigators at the Lanark County Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
